You remove norton first and then download AVG. I had real bother removing norton from my laptop.

ZippiBabes · 22/01/2008 18:50

take norton off first but you will have problems i guarantee

will probably need to go to norton website

and may need to fiddle

it still leaves bits

KatyMac · 22/01/2008 18:51

Shoul I take it into the shop & get someone to do it for me?

try yourself...

SoupDragon · 22/01/2008 18:54

I had no trouble whatsoever uninstalling Norton from mine when I switched to Kaspersky.

mamasara82 · 22/01/2008 18:54

You can do it. If you google 'how to remove norton from your computer' you will get really helpful info. Cheaper than getting a shop to do it for you.

KatyMac · 22/01/2008 18:54

Can I stay on MN while I do it & get emails or should I turn the internet off to protect my computer

OP posts:
mamasara82 · 22/01/2008 18:57

Yes you can but you will need to restart your computer when you have removed it.

KatyMac · 22/01/2008 19:02

Do I want to delete quarantined files

I'd better google it

Can't remember, but I think you do.

ChristmasShinySnowflakes · 22/01/2008 19:07

I had no probs doing this.

Go into Control Panel, add and remove prgrams, click Norton. Delete. Restart computer then download whatever you like

I downloaded Windows Live One Care on a free 90 day trial and preferred it to AVG; so much so that I bought the full 1 year subscription from Pc World last week

ChristmasShinySnowflakes · 22/01/2008 19:08

....and yes delete quarantined files

KatyMac · 22/01/2008 21:02

Hmm - I keep getting Norton stuff pop up

I simply uninstalled Norton from MIL's computer and then installed AVG from their website. Seemed to be working fine this weekend.

H's work did the same to my new laptpop a cuple of weeks ago too. So far it is fine.
