Hi,
I was using my laptop yesterday when the battery ran out and the laptop shut down or went into 'hibernation'. On connecting the power pack charger and switiching on there was a warning message saying 'microsoft has recovered from a serious...' then the message disappeared!!
Windows then began to load and everything seems to be normal except for the fact that it seems everything has doubled in size...the icons/writing on toolbar etc. When I click to open an icon the window opens but as the sizing is out I can only see part of a the page and need to use the arrow keys to move the page up and down to allow me to read it all.
Apart from being very annoying it is also becoming a strain on my eyes.

Any ideas what might have happened and how to fix it would be appreciated. I have tried altering the settings in the control panel but that does not help.

Go into control panel.
Click on display.
Settings click on advanced and check the DPI setting.

Hi Scramble and littlelapin...thank you so much for that...it worked first time!! I did look at that arrow slider earlier when I was in the settings but didn't want to meddle with it when I didn't know what it was for. Still no idea what happened to cause it to go funny as all the other components continued to work OK.

The laptop is just about a year old and has been working great until the last couple of weeks. First the printer stopped working and so I replaced the printer but still no joy so I think it is the laptop that is not speaking to the printer. Then the laptop started on a go slow and every now and then all the icons and tool bar will disappear and I have to ctrl, alt, delete and log off to fix it. Now with this funny display today I am thinking maybe it is time to book the laptop in for the annual health check that comes as part of the extended warrenty package.

Thanks again for helping with the writing...no more sore eyes trying to read mumsnet!!
