have you checked out dabs.com and scan.co.uk - both are good IME.

Bought my daughter her laptop recently from Dabs and it's superb.

FWIW I think Dell laptops are crap and they break/ overheat often.

Their 'dedicated helpline' should be renamed, 'well, we'll pick up the phone and listen to you but actually know less than you do about systems so you may as well not bother line'. All they know how to do is say 'have you rebooted?

Whereas with Dabs they will answer intelligently and replace if it doesn't work, with no quibble at all!

I'd agree with the above.. ...check dabs - but NEVER deal with their corporate people.. ..simply rubbish

KatyMac - that last one probably isn't what you're looking for (unless you like fiddling with linux) 512Mb RAM and a 2Gb hard drive.. ..not spectacular.

What're you looking to do on the PC and what's your absolute top budget?

KatyMac · 14/01/2008 15:44

Emails/internet/word/excell/print photos (no games - well only the odd suduko )

As little as possible as I have a lovely one & this is for childminding staff & children/dd & dh to play on
