Afternoon MN

I'm about to finally take the plunge and fork out for a printer so I can sell on Vinted and the like offering free postage. It seems no bugger wants to buy owt otherwise Confused

Hey ho, so I'm looking at the Canon PIXMA TS3150 (storage space available and £ considered this is looking ok) but there's a few things I can't work out ...

  1. I'm probably only going to be black and white printing so would I still need a colour cartridge?

  2. Does it need zeperate toner?

  3. Possibly thickest question of the lot but at the moment I'm literally only going to use it to print shipping labels ... if I'm using an A4 sheet can I chop off the bit I've printed and use that paper again?!

Any other things you think an idiot like me may benefit knowing before parting with my cash please feel free?

Ta Grin

Get an HP Envy and you pay a small subscription monthly (around £4) and get free inks

Free? They cost £4 a month.

£48 a year plus the cost of the printer is more or less the the same cost as a laser printer.

I have the HP Deskjet 3720 which prints, scans and copies.

Got it from Curry's/PC World.[/quote]
Thank you, I'll google that later Smile

@FixTheBone

If its just for shipping labels look at getting a dymo or brother label printer. No cartridges or toner at all, just buy rolls of labels.
Hi! I was wondering this actually .... do you have any ideas how large the labels can be? I collected a parcel sent by Hermes yesterday and the label was probably A5 Confused

@inheritancetrack

why are you getting such an expensive printer for mainly labels?

Get an HP Envy and you pay a small subscription monthly (around £4) and get free inks. All colours and it scans, copies and prints photos etc. cheap as chips. You often can't use hooky ink cartridges as the manufacturers will alter the machines and somehow not work. Hence I dumped my Epson printer.

Sorry, I definitely DONT want an expensive one Grin

I will look at that one later too, thanks.

Can you see why my purse was crying at spending upwards of £50?!

Do you have a local library? Ours charges 10p a sheet to print, so only 40p a week for what you need! Obviously if you havel to travel there its not going to be cost effective, but I pass mine daily. If that's a short term option, you can see what demand you get and whether it's worth forking out for your own printer.

Do you know I'd initially dismissed this as not viable as I do have to drive to ours and it's only open about 30 seconds on days when there is a full moon the night before or something equally useless but actually, provided I manage expectations with buyers it may be worth considering again. I probably run errands in the area a few times a week so could do a quick pop in. I may give them a call. Plus, my stuff is hardly flying off the shelf Grin

Like you say, I can test the water and see if it's worth forking out for a printer.

Anyone who does this methods for Vinted using Hermes ... do you get sent a shipping label in an email?

If it's just the odd label, why can't you hand write them?

We must have the same library!

moonbedazzled · 30/03/2022 18:15

Sorry, ignore. You mean printing shipping labels, not address labels. At our local Hermes, you just print them off in the shop.

moonbedazzled · 30/03/2022 18:16

Staples doing printing if you have a local one.

There's quite a few on amazon ranging from £80-£120, a lot boast compatability with various online market places and shipping companies, but never used one myself....

500 labels are £20, so 4p each, but unlike ink, thermal printers don't dry out or get clogged etc, so you don't have to factor in any potential wastage.

Disadvantage is that if you expand your usage, you're limited to 6x4 print size.
