Is it possible to reset an iPad and an iPhone to factory settings and then reinstall it all again?

Just that really. Upload everything somewhere. Wipe it clean then reinstall it all as before. Windows 10 laptop only no Apple pc

We want to download DS phone so we can send it back for a refund & he is refusing to let us attempt to download everything to iTunes on the laptop as he insists he will lose stuff (apparently, so he says, backing up to iCloud isn’t good enough either) so I’m watching with interest.

Yes, it’s 100% possible and exactly what you do when you get a new phone.

You can back up to the cloud, but be very certain you’ve done that, as there’s no getting stuff back if you don’t.

That is good to know. The only problem is the iPad and phone belonged to a late spouse and the password and email account isn't known. Would Apple store be able to change this for the surviving spouse and put it in their name. Death certificate, marriage certificate and ID are all available.

It also has email log ins which are unknown. The messenger app has personal and sentimental messages on it and these are also not known :-(

I guess these would go and only apple stuff left, like photos?
