iPhone locked

I've bought an unlocked iPhone from eBay and it's arrived asking for a passcode. Seller has apologetically emailed a number....which doesn't work.

Help!

Can you return it and ask for a refund. Sounds very dodge to me.

Does your old passcode work?

We don't think the seller disassociated the iPhone from their iCloud, so they did that but still the passcode was needed.

They've now sent us a link to restore the phone but we've made several (very lengthy) attempts, and it's still not willing to take on the software from iTunes to restore.

I think I'm going to have to send it back for a refund. Does anyone have any last ditch attempts?!
