Trying to sort out my photo storage once and for all!

I got a shiny new hard drive for Christmas

But I have so many duplicates! Is there a safe way to get just one copy of each photo/video?

Totally out of my depth and I have a load of .Jason files - what are they?

Everything on the hard drive has today's date on it....which is somewhat annoying!

Any helpful suggestions?

I think - but I have stuffed them up by trying to open them and they are all PDFs now
