I actually feel like I might be going mad! I've watched 1500 Youtubers trying to tell me what I need and they Honest To God might as well be talking Chinese! I just DO NOT UNDERSTSTAND!!!! I want to play games but I CANNOT get my head around 'specs' and all that. I need someone very kind to spell out to me WHICH ONE TO BUY without trying to explain why!! Please, please, darling Mumsnetters, I need you!

Budget: £1800 (under £1500 if at all possible though please!)

Min specs: 64 bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 10 64 bit
Processor: Intel i7-4770k / AMD Ryzen 5 1600
Memory: 16GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 (8GB) or AMD Radeon RX 580 (8GB)

Weight: 6lbs or less

Screen size: 17.3

Other requirements: Has got to allow an external hard drive connected with a USB. Needs a built in webcam. Shouldn't have lethal corners I'm going to risk slicing my wrists open on. And yes, it's definitely got to be a laptop as I travel all over the place, a desktop is no use to me at all.

All of the above are non-negotiable!!! I'd rather spend more on something that ticks all the boxes.

If you know just the one for me please let me know! Any help massively appreciated!

This is Dell’s most expensive G(aiming) series laptop at under £1500.
Only 15” screen, albeit hi-res.

Btw new laptops are installed with Windows 11.

Are the specs listed from a particular game? The 8 year old processor seems a bit weird.

For your budget, i7 Intel or r7 and ryzen. 16 or 32 gb ram, 512gb it 1 tb ssd.

Graphics rtx 30xx - 3060ti, 3070, 3080 will do.

A 1080p / 1440p screen will generally have better battery life than a 4k screen

All laptops in this price range will allow you to plug in a hdd, and almost all will have a webcam.

I’m looking for a gaming laptop to run Roblox, war thunder with much limited budget of £700 - any ideas as I’m a lot less knowledgeable than OP please?!

tanstaafl · 10/12/2021 20:07

@Ineedapuppy

Can’t comment on war thunder , but this article might point you in the right direction about Roblox

I’m a lot less knowledgeable than OP

Ha!!! No, you're really, really not! I only know about the specs from copy-pasting what the game developers of one that's defeated by my current computer told me!

@FixTheBone Yes, it's so I can play Planet Zoo. But that game's only about 3 years old so not sure why they said such an old processor? It doesn't NEED to be that old though does it, that's just what's recommended? A newer one will always be better right? Although it's PZ that's not running properly on my current notebook I want to get one that's going to cope well with future games too! So the best I can get would be good.

@FixTheBone Is the HP the one you'd go for with my budget? I'm put off by it not being mentioned on any of the 'Top 10 gaming laptops 2021' youtube reviews I've watched.

I'm looking for an animation tablet for a Xmas present, anyone recommend one decent that's not too expensive, thanks

MustBeThin · 10/12/2021 20:32

Not very helpful but I bought the Acer Predator Triton 300 last year and love it! Had no issues with it whatsoever. It's only 15.6inch though but I'm not sure if they make one a bit bigger, doesn't have sharp corners either. Ive used it for sims4 with lots of expansions, ESO online and played loads of games on it via PSNow.

FixTheBone · 11/12/2021 22:29

For £1500-1800 I'd probably go for something with a smaller screen plus a larger monitor for home.

This looks like a cracking deal
