Washing Machines

What would you do? Have a Hotpoint washer drier. Just done a wash, taken some clothes out and put the jeans to dry. Could smell burning, so turned machine off completely and taken jeans out.

This was a replacement machine (now two years old) as my other washer drier had so many call outs that in the end I think it was cheaper for them to just give me a new all singing all dancing machine. This is the first time that something has gone wrong with this machine. We do not have any extended warranty.

I have rung someone who can come out tomorrow, but on reflection do I risk

a. the man saying it is completely burnt out and not worth fixing.

b. him fixing it and in six months or so may go again.

c. him fixing it and it is ok for a long time.

d. just get a new machine (not another hotpoint) ordered today and delivered in time for christmas?

I'd get a nice new Bosch meself - my neighbour used to have Hotpoint and she ended up with a new machine too.

Do you have to have a washer-drier? Is there anywhere in the house you could put a separate drier and just get a washer this time?

If you can afford it, ditch and buy new.

I've had indesit washer/dryers for the last 5yrs (2 as I moved and sold the old one to my buyer) without problem.

John Lewis have them for £270 at the mo.

I have said I would never ever buy another washer drier and certainly never buy another hotpoint.

I could put a separate drier in the garage. To be honest, I prefer to put washing out on the line but obviously in this horrible weather you can't. I really only use the drier for jeans and towels.

Have msn's DH who has said he will have a think over his lunch.

Tbh I think he will say just get a new machine as he is well aware of the problems we had with one before this.

I normally line-dry too, but use the drier to finish it all off instead of ironing [slut]

(You have to be ready to get the stuff out as soon as finished though - and mine is in the bathroom so I can nip into the bedroom and fling it all on the bed to sort and fold, that would be trickier in the garage...)

Bosch are wonderful and not that expensive, I'll find you a couple - I'll check Which for driers too.

if you buy a john lewis machine, it comes from the same factory as a bosch (apparently) and comes with a 3 year warranty.....

I've got one like this only mine's an older model and only spins at 1200. The time remaining display is really useful.

Re John Lewis, Which says "We know who makes the John Lewis range and this brand has an average rating in our annual survey" - so it can't be Bosch because they are top (after Miele).

I bought a new washing machine when we moved house this year, and set off with the intention of buying a miele or bosch and instead was seduced by this one

I love it and it's really simple to use as well as never having to clean out the powder dispenser ever again.
