Nissan Quashqai Stop/Start only working intermittently - any suggestions?

Obviously my best bet is a garage or dealer but I wondered if any of you clever lot know of a quick fix/reason why it's only working occasionally? I've not switched it off or anything (car was serviced a few weeks ago but I'm sure there wouldn't be a reason for servicing garage to fiddle with it).

I've tried the manual but nothing's jumping out. No signs from anything else the battery could be going low (it was a new battery about 2 years ago).

My Nissan Note is intermittent, i thought this was normal to be honest.

Iluvfriends · 27/08/2021 17:13

Oh i think i maybe thinking of the wrong thing. I'm thinking of when the engine cuts out when stopped at traffic lights eg.....

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 27/08/2021 17:19

Yes that's the one! It was doing it quite regularly (not all the time but def more than currently) but not so much now. I'm watching it like a hawk now. Felt oddly reassured when it kicked in at lights a few times yesterday but then it did nothing at others when I was in neutral and handbrake on. Annoying

I don’t have a Nissan, but my stop/start didn’t work when I barely did any mileage (3k pa)

Something to do with battery not self charging.

It randomly kicked in a few weeks ago as I’m now regularly doing 1hr runs.

WisestIsShe · 27/08/2021 17:21

Mine's a ford but it doesn't do it if I'm using battery draining stuff like lights, aircon, phone charging etc. I just assumed this was normal? Only to turn off if the battery isn't being particularly drained?

IsThisNameTaken · 27/08/2021 17:22

Is it a diesel? stop/start not working was the first indication that the DPF was on it's way out.

LakeShoreD · 27/08/2021 17:26

Were you pumping the heating or a/c? If yes then it’s quite normal that it doesn’t kick in because the engine needs to run to keep things at the desired temperature.

IsThisNameTaken · 27/08/2021 17:27

Or it also doesn't work when you have the rear window or windscreen de-mist on

cultkid · 27/08/2021 17:29

Prob in eco mode? Make sure the A in the circle is off?

Sorry I haven't had one of these but my car does it in eco mode and I get left like a turnip at junctions and roundabouts or pull out later then I thought with it, it's frankly dangerous

Landlubber2019 · 27/08/2021 17:30

Mine worked intermittently until it didn't work at all. One new starter motor later and it's all sorted.

Willowtree999 · 27/08/2021 17:35

Mine does this and I just put it down to the battery not being able to support the function as I wasn't doing many journeys and only a few miles at a time if that. Now I am doing longer journeys it seems to be fine. Hate it anyway so switch it off manually before I go anywhere now.

MrsFin · 27/08/2021 17:35

They only stop/start when they are able to. So they won't if the battery isn't sufficiently charged for example, and ours doesn't always do it if the air con is on.

RandomMess · 27/08/2021 17:41

Once your battery declines they stop being able to work.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 27/08/2021 18:26

Mmmm interesting as I'm only doing short journeys now although no other functions like AC on.

I'll keep an eye on it as worried about the battery now Sad

I did short journeys, knocking out the S/S for years and my car was fine even though it’s a make not known for reliability.

Dragon50 · 27/08/2021 18:35

Sound like your problem is the short journeys.

Mine took about 5 months of longer journeys to kick back in.

RandomMess · 27/08/2021 18:40

Oh mine stopped working 2 years ago when it was 4 years old and down 60k miles as the battery had declined. Although I have climate control on.

Still haven't needed to replace the battery!

Anaphylaxis · 27/08/2021 18:41

Had bettery failed just after warranty ran out. Many reported issues with flat battery on Qashqais early on its life. Quite ironic that Nissan was betting on pure electric at that time (3 yrs ago). Sold it due to many reasons (battery experience was a little part), will stay away from it.

WreckTangled · 27/08/2021 18:42

Mine used to do this, a few months later the battery did die despite it only being two years old.

When I googled the issue it turned out to be a common one. I'm afraid I didn't remember if the new battery fixed the issue as I had to get rid of it shortly after. I would ask your local Nissan dealer to check the battery health/if they know of this issue.

Rainbowshine · 27/08/2021 18:50

If you have the opportunity to take it for a longer journey that would be good, helps your battery and the engine.

If you're only going short journeys, your engine won't be up to temperature etc to allow the stop/start to work.

It's a protective measure on the engine.

RandomMess · 27/08/2021 19:02

I have a different car tbh! C4 Picasso.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 27/08/2021 19:56

You lot have beeen v helpful, thank so much for taking time to post on this jolly boring topic on a Friday night, I appreciate it.

I may get the battery health looked at anyway but will definitely start doing some longer journeys.

Thanks again Grin
