on bbc last night

mumsnet logo : So...

its not
Helvetica
Univers
Geneva
Myraid
Gill Sans
Verdana
Trebuchet

100per cent not Futura
Don't even mention Arial

Take a look at the turned cut on the bottom of the U and tops of m and n. What font is it, its annoying me now!

It was a great programme FWIW.

gah ! would re mind me too much of typography classes at art school ( our secretary there was related to a Swedish typeface designer - can't remember which though)

InspectorWotz · 07/11/2007 11:02

I'm ashamed to say I don't know - as I love fonts and work with them often. In fact DP ad I bonded over a love of fonts when we met!

Umm... it reminds me of the New Scientist title font

LilRedWG · 07/11/2007 11:03

Wotz - this has flummoxed me for a while.

InspectorWotz · 07/11/2007 11:04

Hi there Mary
I was thinking about getting in touch (illus work) glad you are here.

snowleopard · 07/11/2007 11:04

In fact have just checked a new scientist and it's almost identical.

quickdrawmcgraw · 07/11/2007 11:06

Because it's a logo it was probably created especially.
I've made a couple of fonts with Fontcreator and it's good fun. It's nice to make a font out of your own handwriting.

InspectorWotz · 07/11/2007 11:07

are you in UK snowy?
I am not familiar with that one, example please?

OP posts:
InspectorWotz · 07/11/2007 11:07

I am fairly sure I have seen it before, just cant remember. I don't think its made up.

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/11/2007 11:07

that sounds intruiging inspector ! hello quickdraw !

snowleopard · 07/11/2007 11:10

Yes new Scientist is a weekly UK mag - had a design revamp a few years ago.

cover

It's not exactly the same but perhaps same family.

Also reminiscent of Guardian's new fonts egyptian and agate.

Yes is Meta book roman and the old bits that have the small caps are meta book caps.

SoupDragon · 07/11/2007 12:01

I love fonts. I think if I stripped 75% of mine off my PC I wouldn't need a new one with a bigger hard drive...

InspectorWotz · 07/11/2007 12:04

Thank you Soup and Tech

I need to use the 'g' and I don't like it much!
Don't like the big dots on the l/c i and j either.

ummm, I'll have to drink some more coffee and have a think about fonts. ummmmm.
