My ZoneAlarm firewall

Keeps me updated as to what it's been doing. At times I'd rather not know.

It's been installed only a few days and it has already blocked, it says, 1077 intrusions, 6 of which have been "high-rated"

Obviously I'm pleased it has blocked them, but over a thousand attempts to get nasties into my computer in less than ONE week? is this normal?? Are there things about certain computers which make them more juicy-looking?

it's all the porn you're looking at - some dodgy website there you know

UnquietDad · 06/11/2007 14:03

Hmm, I could perhaps understand it if the PC was infested with wank-sites, but...

UQD, that really should not happen unless you
have recently been on doggingUK.com -
apparently that website automatically installs a cookie
on your PC which triggers ZoneAlarm alerts...

TheQueenOfQuotes · 06/11/2007 14:04

it's not the wank-sites - it's all the spyware you find on them that are nothing to do with wanking

UnquietDad · 06/11/2007 14:06

I've got AdAware and Avira, so between them I'd have thought they'd have picked up most nasties available. And I did a check with the latest version of Stinger yesterday.

Just joshing

ZoneAlarm is famous for being an absolute PITA
for alerting you to every little thing,
99.99% of it is completey harmless and in fact
necessary for your PC to work correctly.

My advice: uninstall the bugger and just use your XP/router firewall.

UnquietDad · 06/11/2007 14:09

Some people have said that, but others have said they swear by ZA... not sure what to do. I'm not convinced the Windows XP firewall is good enough on its own. I once had half an hour with no other firewall when I first switched from Internet Exploder to Firefox and I watched the numbers building up at the top of the screen as the intrusions poured in...

There is another free firewall called Sunbelt Kerio which I use.
Much less communicative than ZA, does the job without fuss.

Thanks!
