At least I think it's a task bar - it's normally on the right hand side of the screen & it has Word & Excell & stuff on it

Ay ideas where it's gone??

It's Office 2003 & windows XP

TIA
KMc

press F11 ? seems to work for lots of things !

My DH says there should be a very thin blue bar running down the right-hand side (or wherever the taskbar is normally kept). Hover the mouse pointer over this until the cursor changes to a double-headed arrow. Now click and hold down the left mouse button and drag to bring the taskbar back into view. Release the mouse button when it's the desired size.

Perhaps he has dragged it accidentally to one of the other edges? It usually lives at the bottom but can be dragged to any edge...

You could try running the cursor all the way round the screen edge to see if it is hiding anywhere else... if you see anything change as the cursor moves by then that's where it's been minimised to.

this happened to my computer the other week. I turned it off at the wall, turned it back on and it was back where it should be!
Thats my solution to all computer problems
Sorry!

If you haven't got the start button at all, press ctrl & escape to get the main menu & choose control panel. There should be a taskbar icon. if you open it, does it have a tick in auto hide? Or you could try ticking keep taskbar on top.

If you mean the Office shortcut bar & it's never been there on your dad's new compter, that's because office 2003 doesn't have it.

The start task bar is there - it's the other one with word/excell on that is missing

Was it ever there on this computer? because the help file on Word 2003 says

"The Office Shortcut Bar is not available in Microsoft Office 2003. However, you can use the Windows XP Start menu or the Windows Quick Launch bar in Windows XP or Windows 2000 to quickly open an Office program, file, or folder."

Thanks - That helps
