Anyone know how to fix printer problems?

I would be so grateful if anyone can help me with my printer problems. I had a Lexmark X2350 and I bought (in the name of being green) an ink refill ink cartridge, I installed it but the colour was not as expected, I was printing some photographs but they came out mostly green, I figured that it must be the ink re-fill and bought a new non-refill cartridge but this time the printouts were mostly purple!

I cleaned the nozzles, checked the settings but nothing worked. I decided against buying yet another ink cartridge as I'm not into 'pop art' and I'm afraid that would be all I would get lol.

I bought another printer but this one won't even recognise the cartridge (supplied with the printer) and it keeps making noises like it?s about to start up even though it is turned off!

What the heck am I doing wrong? Or is it a conspiracy to drive me completely nuts?

Any help would be gratefully received.

Did you configure the printer before you printed the photos? You should be prompted to run a test page

southeastastra · 23/10/2007 17:28

mine did that sort of thing a week ago. after two hours googling, cleaning, having a tantrum etc i admitted defeat and got another one.

Squirrel3 · 23/10/2007 17:33

I printed the test page and allignment page, but it was still the same i.e. black coming out as green, red coming out as yellow etc.

The new one (bought as new from ebay) will not even recognise the ink cartridge! I'm not having much luck with printers atm am I?

Bloody printers!

I would go to PCWorld blag that you bought the printer from there and ask the Tech Guys for a bit of advice. If it is just a general question then they normally like to show off their knowledge rather then fobbing you off. If you take it in they will look at it and charge you.

Can't you take the re fill cartridge back to the shop and tell them - they may know why

Squirrel3 · 24/10/2007 08:46

empen, thanks for your reply, I bought the refill over the internet so taking it back and asking is not realy an option and PCworld is to far away.

Its driving me mad, it nearly went out of the window a few times yesterday so this morning I emailed Lexmark in the hope that they may have a solution. [fingers crossed]

Thing is I bought it new from ebay and it will cost me nearly as much to return it as the bloody thing cost so its not worth it.

Last time I buy anything from ebay, I've only bought from there twice and both times its been a waste of money.

The problem with the X2350 seems to be that it operates from a single cartridge - if it doesn't have a separate black ink cartridge, it will try and combine colours to make black. So you are unlikely to get true colours.

If you have a Google, you'll see a lot of people saying that the quality of the black printing is very poor, so it sounds like an issue with the printer rather than the cartridge.

You bought a second printer - what make is that?

I'd be looking at possibly an Epson or HP by choice.

Again it was an all in one lexmark but this time a X2480 but it keeps telling me to 'install print cartridge' even though I have installed the one supplied with it, any ideas?

I am seriously thinking Nailpolish's idea was the best one, lol.

Have a look here it might be something to do with the pin on the printer not quite marrying up with the cartridge

Squirrel3 · 24/10/2007 09:46

Thank you,how did you find that? I've been googling away since yesterday and I didn't find it.

It seems that might be the problem but fixing it is not going to be easy.

I read it and it might as well be in Greek, I'll have a good look inside the printer for the pin and see what I can do.

Special techy googling skills you're obviously not geeky enough

I'll have you know I was 5 yrs old when I got my first pair of national health glasses, lol

Thanks for your help, I'm taking my dgs and dgd to the park to feed the swans on the pond but I will have a look when I arrive home, I'll let you know how I get on with it.

Grrrrrr! Nothing is working! Lexmark repied to my email and sent a link to up-date the software but it still doesn't work! It seems that there are some files missing on the instalation CD.

That's it! It is going out of the window!
