Here's my method (i.e. I can get away with this, don't sue me if you wreck your keyboard)

  1. Lift keyboard using both hands

  2. Tip left side down, until it's standing vertically on the table.

  3. Give it a couple of thumps, and a shake.

  4. Using a screwdriver, lever off the Control and Shift keys, and continue shaking and thumping until all the crap rolls downhill to the gap you've made.

  5. When done, press your keys back into position.

The same basic technique can be used really annoy non-touch typists...

wooooaw.. never remove keys from a keyboard.. sometimes the spring mechamisms are so fragile they will sinmply break and you end up with keys that fall off or are wonky...

The way to clean a keyboard is to use a can of compressed air and blow all the crap out of the nooks and crannies...

From one who spent a long time in the IT industry. DO NOT REMOVE THE KEYS FROM A LAPTOP!!!

There are some wipes which you can get from PC world for cleaning keyboards with.

If you absolutely have to. tip it up and give it a gentle shake (no thumps please - you can only do this on a bog-standard keyboard) Make sure it's switched off when you do this.

Ah...looks like my advice came a little too late.
