Printer has stopped recognising 3rd party inks

I think this is a widespread problem, but it's an incredibly annoying one.

I have an Epson XP-322. During lockdown, I've started using 3rd party inks from eBay that have worked out substantially cheaper and quality of print hasn't been compromised at all. Before then, I'd bought cartridges from Tesco, which were cheaper than Epson, but still quite pricey compared to my eBay supplier. I've been printing a LOT - 2 DD's who prefer their weekly Maths and Science booklets in hard copy format, my work and DH's work less occasionally. We're also planning a renovation so have printing out lots of drawing.

The point is, the inks have worked perfectly.

Then, after an update, inks aren't recognised at all. I've googled, and it's a common problem. Which? Magazine wants consumers facing the same situation to contact them (which I have) but the list of consumers is long.

I've Tweeted Epson who DM'd me some advice, which didn't work, but ultimately their bottom line was - we cannot guarantee you printer will work if you don't use our expensive an overpriced own ink.

Stuck! Is anyone able to offer me any advice? It's incredibly frustrating to not have this essential kit working, but I truly cannot afford the ink prices from Epson.

Have you tried somewhere like Cartridge People? Or CartridgeInk/

Any of the online websites where this is their main /only focus? They might have better copies which get round the software? Or be able to advise you on which ones would work and which won't.

I get my ink from stinky ink, they have advice on their site about what to do if the cartridge isn't being recognised. I've had to use it once or twice (also an Epson printer)

Hope this sorts it!

Following as I have feeling our printer may do the same soon and I just cannot morally justify paying for branded inks when the compatibles work so well. I think read somewhere (Facebook probably, so definitely true Wink) that printer ink is more expensive per gram than gold!

@NewnameOldposter It's sorted!
I read your link and swapped a few around until I could get it to work and now it's working. I've compared those that work against the ones that aren't recognised and while the cartridge looks almost identical, there is a small difference in a tiny ridge in the side of the plastic casing. It's barely noticeable but they ones that don't work are different.

I'll get back to my supplier on ebay - I have 18 unusable cartridges!

HUGE thanks!

@WelshMoth

Wonderful! Hopefully the supplier sorts out any issues for you.

They're all still in their individual wrappers so it should hopefully be fine!
Delighted isn't the word Thanks
