New iPhone: 4:3 or 16:9?

I've just bought an iPhone SE and in the camera theres the option to choose 4:3 or 16:9. I don't know anything about photography, which optionnis the best one if I'm going to be printing out photos for album later on? Or does it not matter? Thanks!

Depends on what you're taking a picture of. Is one not portrait and the other landscape?

Lazydaisydaydream · 31/05/2020 08:38

The 4:3 one has a black border around so doesn't fill the whole screen and is smaller. The 16:9 fills the iPhone screen. Doesnt matter whether portrait or landscape.

Sorry I'm wrong. 16:9 is wide screen and 4:3 is normal aspect ratio

OK thanks so if i take my photos in 4:3 they shouldn't crop or be distorted when I get them printed online?

They shouldn't be distorted at all.

Perfect thank you.

Have tried printing photos in the past and ended up with them cropping off the edges so trying to avoid that happening! Grin

That shouldn't happen, you don't need to change ration on your phone to avoid it though, it is down to the setting on the printer.

I always use 16:9, love it for photography Grin

But surely the dimensions of whichever photo size I am choosing to print will affect how much of the photo can fit on if the ratio is different? So a 6x4 photo will presumably fit one ratio better than another? I just don't know which one. And yes I have definitely had photos cropped when printed online. I just don't know enough about it to know why!
