my openoffice has gone weird! Help

For no reason I can see my open office programme has started saving documents in a format I then can't open!! When I try and save as windows xp 97 it also wont let me re open. It doesnt look like a word document if that makes sense. I have tried the only technical thing I know how to do (rebooting!) and its still the same! Help please!

can noone help??? Please?? I rely on my pc for work, its monday tomorrow and I am panicking. Would really really appreciate any help

it's saving them in it's native format (can't remember what it's called)
You need to make sure that when you press "Save As" you click the little drop down box of formats, choose ".doc" which is Microsoft Office's format and you will be able to open them on any computer.

To fix the ones you can't open now, open them up and "Save As" them all as ".doc" files.

So you should end up with files that are entitled "Your written document???.doc"
