RJ45 vs R11

I'm currently renovating my home and as part of this getting my electrics rewired. My BT telephone socket (which I believe is also known as the RJ11) is in the lounge. On the opposite wall I am proposing to have my TV. The electrician has asked if I would like an RJ45 socket installed so that the TV can be hard wired to the wifi. Would this be necessary if the RJ11 (which I believe the wireless router would be plugged in to) is on the opposite wall?

Apologies if this is a really dumb question - its my first home and I don't know how these things work :-)

If you use iPlayer/Netflix/other Internet telly services on the TV regularly it's a good idea to wire the TV to the router instead of using wifi. It's faster and more reliable. Plus the wifi is shared with all the other devices (phones, tablets, laptops, games consoles, Echos etc) so with the telly chewing it all up they can get starved and slow.

Doesn't matter that the router will be close by, wired will still be better than wifi for the TV.

So yeah, probably a good idea. It'll be a connection running from where the router will be to the wall by the TV.

Alternatively, you could have them sort out the Internet/telephone wire so it runs to a new RJ11 by the TV, put the router there, and have the TV cabled direct to the router.

Thank you for your response. How is the RJ45 socket then connected to my router? If, for example, I put an RJ45 in the bedroom upstairs would a lead still need to be hardwired from the RJ45 to the router downstairs anyway? If so surely you would just run a wire direct from the downstairs router to the TV upstairs?
