Wifi extender- will it slow internet down

Hi!

Basically, what I want to know is, if I have a WiFi extender in my lounge where the router is and plugged into my pc upstairs, will it slow the internet speed down for others not using the extender? So will it impact the WiFi connection received by my household otherwise? Think it sounds like a great idea but I don't want to be selfish Grin

Thanks! (I tried to google but it wasn't understanding my question)

Your wiFi extender shouldn't be near your router it should be just inside the furthest your router signal reaches.

An extender picks up your wifi signal and boosts it. It won't slow it down.

I've recently bought a wifi extender. The instructions said to put it fairly close to the router. I've found that it interfered with the wifi signal on some things but this has stopped since I've switched other things over to the extender signal iyswim. So, for eg, my tv is connected to the original router but my laptop is connected to the extender.
