I had this from my sis.
They have joined a place like myspace and if you want to you go along and join up .Put in details about yourself and stuff.
Have done it myself but dontreally see the point.

tribpot · 23/07/2007 07:51

I've had two invitations recently so actually joined up this morning. Not very impressed, I have to give my full name (suppose I could have put Ebeneezer Golightly or something) and date of birth, and expose an email address as well I think? Hello constant spamming!

hockeypuck · 23/07/2007 08:06

facebook is fab, no spamming, it's all safe from that.

Plus you can come along and join the mumsnet group on there, 180 odd mumsnet members so far

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/07/2007 08:24

tribpot - only people who you 'accept' as your friends will be able to see your email address.

hockeypuck · 23/07/2007 08:31

and then you can still choose not to display your email address at all even to friends.

It's all quite safe really, particularly if you make your profile viewable to friends only (in the privacy settings)

tribpot · 23/07/2007 08:32

Okay, that's good. I still can't quite see the point of it, I notice that it's all my most glamorous friends who want to be on it to show how gorgeous they are. I'm sticking with the pic of a question mark for now!

ratclare · 23/07/2007 08:42

wow does this mean i have a friend !!!!

OP posts:
hockeypuck · 23/07/2007 11:13

Tribpot - don't worry about it. I'm a right minger and I have a photo up. I figure my friends know what I look like and still like me so I'll survive!

Or, you could put a photo up of something to dow ith your mumsnet name - A few Mnetters have done this. Little Lapin is a rabbit for example.

tribpot · 23/07/2007 11:50

I like that idea, except that my MN nickname is unbelievably poncey, being the abbreviation used on inscriptions to indicate that a Roman emperor had the power of the tribunes of the plebs (tribunicia potestas ... )

SandCastspells · 23/07/2007 11:53

Tribot, you can select who sees your info, you aren't going to be getting tons of unwanted emails.

charliecat · 23/07/2007 11:54

you can also play scrabble with fellow mumsnetters.........fascinating

SandCastspells · 23/07/2007 11:56

oh yes....the scrabble is a must!

PrincessGoodLife · 23/07/2007 12:03

oh, since there are facebooking MNetters on here, I can ask you a question? ... I joined then left the MN group on facebook because I realised that it appeared on my profile and I didn't want my friends/family reading everything I have posted on here (not because it is anything very exciting but because I want some privacy). My Q is: can you join a group and NOT have it appear on the profile?
Oh, and what do you do on there apart from belong to the group?
Ta!

SandCastspells · 23/07/2007 12:08

Princess. Once you have joined the group, go into privacy, find groups.

Select who you want to see what groups you are in.

You can have

No One
Only Me
Friends
etc....

SandCastspells · 23/07/2007 12:08

Sorry, once in privacy, select profile.

PrincessGoodLife · 23/07/2007 12:09

AHA! Thanks! May well run along and join up again now.

nappyaddict · 23/07/2007 23:42

you can choose not to have your dob or email ad on show to anyone if you want.

Imawurzel · 24/07/2007 18:18

how do i join the mumsnet group on there??
am new to it and have NO idea what i'm actually doing .

SaintGeorge · 24/07/2007 18:20

Click 'groups' in the left hand column. Search for Mumsnet.

On the Mumsnet page, click on 'join group' on the right hand side.

Imawurzel · 24/07/2007 18:21

ok doke. off to do that now.

Imawurzel · 25/07/2007 06:49

I'm now waiting to be comfirmed by someone.

chopster · 25/07/2007 07:24

ooh I didn't know there was a mn group on there. I've tracked down a few really old friends on there, I think it's great.

chopster · 25/07/2007 07:41

I;ve requested to join. How do they know if you are a mnetter or not though?

Imawurzel · 25/07/2007 08:29

Not sure, i didnt think of that. MAybe send a message to one of the 'ones who have the say' on there, cant rememeber what they're called, click on her name in facebook and ask.
I'll do that later when i get back from work .If you do it first let i know, if i do it first i'll let ye know.

chopster · 26/07/2007 08:48
