What is wrong with my kindle?

Charged it up after no using it for a while. Read my book for about 40 minutes.
This morning it was flat, so charged it up. Looked fully charged.
Just picked it up to read it and it is flat again.
It is about 4 years old, but only been used in the last year.
TIA
Ps when I first started using it it worked perfectly and a charge lasted a couple of days.

My Kobo reader lasts about 3 weeks on a charge.

Which model is it?

I have a 3 year old Kindle Paperwhite that I use for atleast 30 minutes a day (usually about an hour) and it gets charged about once a month.

Definitely sounds like something may be going on with your battery and may well have been from the start of it was only lasting days.

Are you sliding the power switch off when not using? You could try restarting it?

Sounds like the battery went bad before you started using it - a kindle without a backlight ought to last more like two months than two days. Even a lightup Paperwhite should last at least weeks, not days.

It's worth trying a factory reset - Home, Menu, Settings, Reset Device or Reset to Factory Defaults, whichever one you have.

Unless it's a Kindle Fire? In which case it's just a tablet and will run out of battery in a day or two. Get yourself to CEX or similar and pick up an old Paperwhite!

It just says kindle voyage on the booklet that came with it.
I have charged it again and will see how it goes.
Just looked at the booklet and will find the user manual online.
Thanks everyone.
I have discovered that it is not compatible with my local library system, so I might have to consider replacing it anyway.
I don't have a tablet, just a phone and a laptop.
I had hoped to be able to get books from the library.

Hi; I use a kindle fire to read books from my local library using the bookbub app. I have a paper white to read books that I have bought from amazon

Thanks.
I didn't buy this one, it was given to dh and he just rediscovered it and gave it to me to try out.
I will see how it goes.

The Voyage is a fancy-end one, posher than a paperwhite (although a four year old one is probably much like a current paperwhite). Its battery ought to last for three+ weeks. Try the reset I mentioned. You could also get a replacement battery (Amazon sell them) for about £12. Youtube has "how to" videos.

I'm surprised it won't work with the local library, Kindles are supposed to be good for that (though I've never tried myself). If the library works with Kindles in general it'll work with the Voyage even if it doesn't mention it by name.
