McAfee threating with viruses 45 days before my account expires!

Hello;
if you ever consider getting McAfee, DON'T!!
in fact they started a month ago already but I ignored them, now am fed up; I have been loyal to them, I installed it first for a year, then when that ran out, for 3 years starting May 20th 2016!!! Now they are virtually persecuting/threatening me since mid of March.
I was recommended to use Bitdefender 2019 - anyone has ideas on it?
thanks for any replies,

They are simply encouraging you to renew. If you do, the messages will go away.

Bitdefender is ok but is not currently one of the best. The best ones for home users currently according to Av-test.org (who are independent and highly respected) are Avast (which is free), Avira, F-Secure, Kaspersky, McAfee, Norton and VIPRE. These all beat Bitdefender on both the level of protection provided and usability. Most of them also beat Bitdefender on performance (i.e. the impact on your PC's speed).

McAfee is a pain, I agree, don't use it!

NoBaggyPants · 28/04/2019 19:33

You don't understand the meaning of persecution do you?

howmanyleftfeet · 28/04/2019 19:35

NoBaggyPants WTF?

Persecution is a perfectly reasonable word to describe the aggressive tactics of some anti virus software companies.

I use Mcafee, this year I renewed via Amazon... much much cheaper

They're all as bad as each other. Windows 10 has Defender built in, which is finally a perfectly acceptable AV. Ditch all the pay-for things and use that.

If you want belt'n'braces, download and occasionally run Malwarebytes just as a disk scanner. This has recently take up poking you to be upgraded to pay-for, but there's no need to pay for it at all with Defender doing the hard work in the background. Just hit the 'no thanks' button every month or so (and use that as a reminder run a scan!).
