Google Mini for Grandparent - in different house ?

I'm a bit out of touch but my son had a mini for Christmas & I managed to get it to work - he loves Spotify, Quizzes, asking it questions etc - typical 11 year old. We have BT Wifi.

Thing is I was thinking about getting one for my Dad who is in his eighties mainly because he has very bad eyesight & can no longer fiddle with his Bose CD system to play music. I thought if he had Spotify he could just ask it to play Neil Diamond, Frank Sinatra etc & he would get music quickly. Im sure we could find other things that it could do to make his life easier. They have non BT Wifi in their house.

Q's - if I got them one could I sent up account somehow, get spotify etc - my Dad wouldn't have patience or eyesight to do this & would it be relatively straightforward.

Also if you have a mini anything else you think he could easily find to use it for ?

THANK YOU

It's super easy to set up. Maybe make him his own Google account, but that takes minutes and you could do that before hand.

If you have spotify premium, you could probably add it as one of your devices. Otherwise he'd need his own account, or a free one. The free spotify accounts are annoying on voice activated, as if you ask for music by the Beatles, you get a play list inspired by the Beatles.

He could call you hands free (and 'free' ie over the Internet, not via his minutes). That also works as a kind of alarm lest he falls.

He could set reminders and timers?

Asking how old people on the telly are! Yes, my mum loves that. Googling stuff in general.
It can translate now, too.

I’ve done this with Alexa for my mum and dad and it seems to be ok. It’s linked to my account and shows as one of my devices. I’m seeing them this week so will check it’s all working still!

You could also check if Bose has voice control options.

He could do audiobooks, the weather, radio, and it does a news thing from whatever source you set up if you ask it the news. Also can turn lights on and off if you have the right bulbs.
