DD has manged to download something and I can't get rid of it, please see if you can help

Basically, its programme called ContraVirus, which as its name suggests is an anti-virus programme. God knows how she did it, but I can't get it off my pc now. Its showing as an icon on the bottom right of the screen, as a white cross in red circle and it keeps flashing with what I can only asume is the companys logo. Every 5 minutes, its popping up in a balloon that it has detected a bad virus and I should download their software. I've got anti-virus stuff and I've done a scan with it and there's nothing bad there. I've done add/remove programmes and I've deleted the file from the programme files, but its still there. What am I doing wrong?

Can you do a system restore?

You're talking to a complete novice here, how difficult is that and will it mean I can't mn for hours!!

Mo i downloaded the nannaynet parental control 14 day trial it locked me out of evrything wouldnt let me uninstall it or anything had to have the whole thing reformatted.

But go to set programmes and defaults on the start up, then change remove programmes, find the programme and click uninstall.

No idea myself beyond what you have already done but check this website as they have helped me out before.

Sounds like you have got a Trojan Horse spyware.
If you have Windows you can download Windows Defender from Microsoft
If not, try Google search for free anti-spyware software.
I fell victim to this a while ago, but it's sorted now

You might have to use 2 different ones to get rid of it. Adaware and spybot are the best ones. Install them and then run a scan on each one.

download spybot search and destroy and adaware (both free) run and see what happens?

Sorry to leave you hanging, I got caught up at work. THe AVG link is good, that's what we use. System Restore is: Go to Programs then Accessories, then System Tools, the System Restore. You can then pick a day before the incident happened and it basically backs you up to that.

Of course, if it's some kind of virus then you have to use the software to remove it.

I might tell him. Its part of my grand plan to make him obsolete! I can change tyres, batteries and spark plugs on the car. Do enough DIY to get by and I cut the grass anyway!

LOL - I'm chief geek in my house, but I did go on a one day plumbing course so I can show off when the loo breaks. Sadly this backfired and various friends have asked me to fix their stinking loos
