Is there any chance I could connect a portable DVD player to my smart TV?

I have a new smart TV but my old DVD player no longer works. I do have an in car portable DVD player which I no longer use in the car which has USB connection. Is there any chance I could buy a double ended USB cable, plug it in and it would magically work.

I realise the answer to this is probably no! It just seems a shame to buy something new when I might have something which will do the job.

I only want to play DVDs on the TV. Nothing else.

I’m guessing the USB connector in the DVD player is so that it can get power. Does it have any other connectors?

Other connecters are labelled coaxial, audio and video. They of the same type as a headphone jack.

Multicoloured connectors? Have a look on the TV and see if it has a matching set on the back or on one of the side edges (possibly hidden under a cover) you'd need audio and video leads at least - coax is the aerial, I think (may want to Google that one to make sure!)

DH certainly had a portable dvd player hooked up to a TV at one point so it can be done assuming you have the right outputs.

You probably need a '3.5mm to phono' lead to connect from the "audio video" hole to the red, white and yellow sockets on your TV.

OK great. I shall explore. I might have the right leads as the portable has two screens that link up via those sockets.Otherwise I shall try the ebay one.
