Geeky stuff

burning sections of DVDs

Is it possible to copy bits of prerecorded DVDs onto another DVD? My son, who is autistic, loves the opening songs for shows like Fireman Sam and Noddy and I had the idea of collecting them all onto one DVD for him, which I could then use as a reward in his intensive home programme. Are these programmes rights protected, does anyone know?
Thanks

Thanks - will order that - but what I was really looking for was a DVD with the songs + visual opening sequences. I thought they probably would be rights protected - shame.

Can be done, but you need to be quite geeky to do it.

It is possible to do this by decrypting the original DVD and importing the decrypted video into video editing software where it can be edited. This does require downloading and/or buying software. I use DVD decrypter to get the video onto my PC and Pinnacle Studio to do the editing (and burning to DVD if desired).

Alternatively, if you have a modern DV camcorder you can connect the output of your DVD player to the AV-in connection of your camcorder and record the desired clips onto DV tape. You will need to consult your camcorder manual to do this, as it usually requires the setting of an option to accept input. Once on tape you can capture the footage to your computer and edit (Windows Movie Maker is probably capable of doing this, but I use Pinnacle Studio).

Good luck.

Thanks v much - the camcorder idea sounds feasible. Can see I will have to get geeky
