It says something like ' you have performed an illegal operation you fecker, i'm shutting down'.

I only ever use Autocad, Photoshop, Word and a Mozilla broswer, so don't see what is going wrong here?

pmsl

does it really say that.

I wish my computer talked to me.

BishyBarneyBee · 13/06/2007 14:10

mm- you need to go to relate you fecker.

chopchopbusybusy · 13/06/2007 14:12

Hmm... Yes, mine sometimes says things like that to me. I always feel quite guilty . I'd just delete cookies, browsing history etc and then go and sit on the naughty step for a while.

throckenholt · 13/06/2007 14:15

have you run all the usual virus checker spyware checker etc ?

Does it do it when you are using something specific ?

Maybe defragmenting will help.

throckenholt · 13/06/2007 14:16

not that I know much about windows by the way

Unix machines on the other hand have a really helpful comment - something like.

"Panic - contact your system administrator".

Bit of a show stopper when you are the system administrator !

HandyTrinkett · 14/06/2007 09:42

it's just a segfault.. ...no need to panic... ...something somewhere is getting it's pointers in a muddle and trying to access a piece of memory it shouldn't. Did you get the lovely blue screen?

TH - I've only ever seen the '(Kernel) PANIC' on linux a couple of times.. ...most spectacularly just before a DIMM started to smoke....
