funny marks on my word document

borng beyond belief but my word document has funny corners in the corner on the top left and top right hand corners- does anyone know what these are and how to get rid of them- they're fainter grey than the words which are black but if I click anywhere near them nothing happens, I'm very confused as to how they got there

Try:
Tools>Options
View tab
Print and Web Layout options section
"Text boundaries" UNCHECK the box.

have you used a template of some sort?

no template that I know of - away to try that rusty

the print and web layout options wasn't checked.
last week for some reason I had to reload the microsoft xp disc back onto the computer because it wanted to confirm language settings - would thios have anything to do with it - thanks for help
