yes, delete all but the most recent.

they'll be files that say what files etc were installed from your original install and for updates. It's highly unlikey you'll ever need them and you certainly won't need the older ones as they'll be out of date

SenoraPostrophe · 16/05/2007 21:13

they should only be small though. are they really big?

Katymac · 16/05/2007 21:14

How do I know if they are recent?

Sorry I'm a bit dim (& my mind is on other thigs)

nearly 4000Kb?

does the disk cleanup thingy not give you a last updated date?

what names and sizes does it tell you exactly and how much space do you have on the drive?

SenoraPostrophe · 16/05/2007 21:18

I suppose 4MB is worth deleting.

if it's called something.log you can delete it and whatever created it will simply create another smaller one.

Katymac · 16/05/2007 21:18

No at least - nowhere I can see

I don't know my computer slows down & I do disk cleanup

But I think something else might be wrong (iyswim)

I have to do it every 3/4 days - which seems worng

you shouldn't have to cleanup you disk every 3-4 days. I think you may need a bigger hard drive, or you need to find some really big files to delete.

when you go to "my computer" how much free space does it say the drive has?

Katymac · 16/05/2007 21:28

& now it won't defrag either

I've broken it haven't I?

OP posts:
Katymac · 16/05/2007 21:29

27Gb free space

OK, disk cleanup isn't your problem then.

There are lots of things it could be. has it started recently and does it just go really slow or does it lock up completely (i.e. the mouse doesn't move)?

Katymac · 16/05/2007 21:39

Started about 3 weeks ago

No it just goes VERY slowly & I get bored

Is it XP? I had a similar problem recently and it turned out to be windows updates.

go to control panel>windows updates. somewhere in the settings there is a tick box that says "use microsoft updates" - find it and untick it (this will stop your computer from automatically trying to install updates for things like media player. it will not stop the windows updates). There seems to be a dodgy update that they haven't fixed yet.

Katymac · 16/05/2007 21:52

I'll give it a go (I found it)
