The volume on an iPhone query.

Thinking of buying an iPhone (probably 6) and was concerned about hearing incoming calls. It’s not the ring tones but voices on the other end of the call. I have a simple Dora mobile at the moment and can hear that easily. However, I asked a friend about this on her iPhone SE. She rang me from another room and the volume was really low. I could barely hear it. We located the + and - volume adjuster which you use once a call begins but although on full volume it was no where near the level of sound that my Dora has. I am concerned that all the iPhones might only offer such a low sound. My hearing is not A1 and I use hearing aids to assist watching tv etc but I can hold conversations on my landline and Dora without any trouble. I am so disappointed as I thought paying out a lot of money would give me better voice reception, not worse. Was my experience likely to be the same across all the iPhones? Would be grateful for advice.
