Got a new printer, but used to ahve similar problems with last one before it died, so think it is computer.

You send document to be printed and its in the 'documents to print' bit. But it doesn't print. It just waits. Says printer is offline but can't find anyway to change this. It always happens after you cancel a document. Have tried selecting 'use offline' but it makes no difference. have tried changing priority to '99' not '1' but nothing happens. Have tried turning printer off and on again. Have tried cancelling document and resending it. NOne of these work. Cannot select 'resume' printing as it is not paused. 'Restart' doesn't work either. 2 hours after you send it the document still hasn't printed.

Can anyone tell me why it isn't working and what will make it print? Please. TIA

When mine does this restarting ususally works, but maybe reloading the software might is worth a go.

Jomist · 28/04/2007 14:04

make that reloading the software is worth a go

TheArmadillo · 28/04/2007 14:05

yes.

Restarted computer and now printer is online.

So why when I cancel a document does it set printer to offline (and won't print from any program including command prompt) and why does the only way to remedy this seem to be to restart the computer?

AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

I'm sure its the computer as it did exactly the same with the old printer.

My printer has an option for print to file, which I didn't know existed until I was throwing my toys out the pram at it and my DH carefully pointed it out (taking life in own hands!!)

You could try checking that it is not selected...usually on the properties page of the printer options...hope I'm not asking you to suck eggs!

Jomist. Sorry x-posted.

Reloading the software was my next avenue. But I really don't think that is the problem as restarting solves it.

I think my computer hates printers. That is the only logical answer

Ok, deep breaths now....and then put out 25 posts asking for help because I'm stuck now

TheArmadillo · 28/04/2007 14:11

ooh print to file sounds good.

Am gonna try cancelling a document again in a minute to see if the same thing happens.

Once the stuff I actually need has finished printing.

ok so now tried cancelling a document and the bastard not only took only seconds to do so (rather than the usual 30 mins) but also then kept the printer as online.

Its sneaky but I will beat it.
