OK so I have sky fibre broadband and it has always been fine and the most reliable we have tried in our area. However, since adding smart home devices we have run into the problem of the 16 device limit on the router. Now that we have added some smart bulbs and plugs, added to the WiFi printer, multiple tablets and phones and games consoles in the family we keep finding that devices Keep getting kicked off the network or failing to connect. So how do I fix this?

Considering that technology is only going to advance I don’t think just don’t have as many devices is an option. So is there a way to increase the device limit on my router? Can I replace the Sky router and booster (because the sky signal only reaches half of our home without the booster) with another router? How would I set that up? I’ve heard about the possibility of creating an access point for the smart home devices but I don’t know how to do that either. I’m reasonably tech savvy but I have never done these things so looking for ideas and guidance please!

BT Homehub 3 can handle at least 30 devices, absolute maximum is 255.

Enter 192.168.1.254 in the search bar of your router and see if the maximum devices is set

I’ve not long renewed my contract with sky so can’t change ISP. Although we did have BT infinity a couple of years ago and found it was always dropping out in the evenings. Also the above doesn’t take me to my router (Sky seems to be 192.168.0.1) but the options seem very limited. I can’t seem to change the allowed devices. For the moment I plan on removing all devices and then re-adding in order of importance but that doesn’t exactly solve my issue. I’m assuming I may have to invest in a better router that can handle more devices?

You may find the contract with Sky specifies you use their router.
