Why can’t I download a Kindle book from Amazon on my IPad?

So if I’m on Amazon app using my IPad, and I see a Kindle book I want, it says deliver to, then I select my IPad on the drop down menu, but no actual way/function to download the book. Or says you cannot download from this device, or words very similar.
Is there a way to get round this? Why won’t it download?
I can easily do it on my laptop, so no real issue, but I use my IPad much more. Many thanks in advance xx

Do you need the kindle app though on your iPad ?

@Endo, no, I don’t suppose I do, come to think of it.
Thanks, I’ll go on the normal website and go from there 👍

Apple take 30% of the cost of digit downloads made through apps, so you can't download any kindle books, films or music through the amazon apps, only on the website through safari.
