iPad disabled, retry in 23 million minutes

Shock We got my elderly father an iPad mini when he was in hospital a couple of years ago. He never really got the hang of it so it’s virtually unused. I was thinking of selling it for him as there’s no point in it sitting there being unused but when I charged it up and turned it on I got the message ‘iPad disabled, please retry in 23 million minutes’

Any idea what to do???

I have seen '...retry in 10 minutes' after toddler dd has taken it upon herself to "PRESS THE NUMBERS!" and mashed at the pin numbers until it locked her out. But it has never been that long! Maybe try apple support?

I had this with my iPod (Dd1 had done something to it - though not sure what!) I was able to reset it by connecting to my laptop - not sure if that would work with iPad though.

MN is brilliant for lots of things, especially when you need a human take on things, but this is one time when I would just google 'ipad and the exact error message' for ally useful advice. All the best...

Thanks for the link ifailed

And yes, FinallyHere googling the error message was the first thing I tried but too much confusing stuff came back so I was hoping for the MN ‘edit’ Smile

Grin Sorry for your predicament, but that message has made me laugh in the midst of a shitty week. That’s 43 years’ time! (I think. My maths might be wrong!)

My dd has come downstairs 3 mornings running to a similar message saying iPad is disabled for however many minutes increasing each morning. But nobody has touched it. It just stays downstairs overnight.
Now it has disabled itself with a message saying connect to iTunes. It's never been connected in the first place! I know nothing about tech and am completely stuck.

Sorry if I should have started my own thread.

Happy to help noitsnotteatimeyet

The first hit i got from googling was https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7138743 which looks reputable and explains the problem (incorrect password input too many times) and contains a link to option to reset the device. Unless you have a recovery password set, it would probably not be possible to save tbe data already on the device, which might, for the sounds of it not be an issue.

If you have any questions about that, I would be glad to try and answer them. Having avoided them for years, Im really enjoyed using apple products and would love to pass forward some of the help I have received.

And you don't have to wait for millions of minutes! Just reset your phone and you'll be able to regain access to your iPhone and iPad.

In the case that iPad is disabled, try connecting the device to the computer and use iTunes to restore it. There is a post that may help you: www.tuneskit.com/ios-repair/ipad-is-disabled-connect-to-itunes-fix.html
