We have recently signed up to skybroadband, we got a net gear white box thing that we hva connected to our pc which is not wireless enabled.
My laptop is wireless enabled but wont let me connect to the sky.
my dad said i need a "thingy" whatever one of those is, he couldnt remember the name but that i need one to get my laptop working on the net.

Please can anyone advise?

Your laptop needs to connect to the router either wirelessley or via a cable.

If your laptop was bought in the last few years it should be able to do this.

What is the model number of your laptop, or does it mention WiFi anywhere on the box?

Are you sure your wireless is turned on? Some laptops have a switch at the side & it can be very easy to turn it off without noticing.

right. the netgear box is the sky broadband box and in the instructions it says we need a wireless network adaptor is this the same as a router?

Jenk a wireless network adapter is what you need PROVIDED you laptop doesn't have one already- it might! Almost any laptop made since around 2004 will have WiFi built in. If you tell me the precise model of the laptop I can look it up on the web for you.

Also just to muddy the water further you may have an ethernet network socket on your laptop which could be connected with a £5 cable (although you may prefer WiF).
