Please help me put the TV on

I've had a long week. All I want to do is put my feet up and watch a bit of TV before I conk out. Pleeeeeeze help me.

Using a 2nd hand TV for the first time. I switch it on and get this message. I've tried switching on with a scart lead leading from TV to freeview box, and without a scart lead at all - the same message comes up.

Anyone have a clue what this means?

No but in The Detectorists the character played by Mackenzie Crook cannot put his tv on either and I just read in an article that he in real life cannot put his tv on so you're in good company!

Are you connected to the right input? The screen says ext1 so check your scart is connected to the socket labelled ext1 or alternativley cycle through the input choices.

HerOtherHalf there are two scart inputs at the back of the TV and I've tried them both.

Enid I refuse to do anything until this TV gets fixed.

Please? Can anyone help? Or is my sat night doomed as well?

What happens if you press the OK button?
Is there an input or AV button you can try, or the menu?

Is there some menu to change the input. Ours has to be on HDMI 1, and our tivo box has to be on (not just in standby) or else we get a message.

Nothing happens when I press the ok button. I have managed to get to a menu where I can change the input, but whatever I change it to it just alters the error message. So instead of scart, it will say HDMI or whatever.

Click on the manual for the set you have on the list. Hope it helps.

Have asked hubs...he reckons click on the exit button and it will probs come on.

Margery80 I can't click on anything in that error message box. It just comes up for a few seconds and then vanishes. Can your husband not turn on your telly?

I'm now getting another message after the initial one which says "pas d'image disponible" which I think translates to "no tv for you tonight missy"

so it's not getting a signal from the SCART lead.

There are a load of possibilities here.

You've tried both SCART sockets, so that's not the main issue.

The really stupid possibility is that the freeview box isn't turned on> Let's just rule that one out, you are sure it's on?

That leaves 4 possibilities.

1 The SCART lead isn't plugged in firmly enough.
2 The SCART lead is faulty
3 The freeview box is faulty
4 The TV is faulty

Can we rule any of those out?

Freeview box is turned on.
Both the freeview box and the scart lead were working perfectly fine on my old TV, just before I changed to this TV. The TV belonged to my dad and was also in good working order.

I will double check if the scart lead is plugged in firmly. Thing is, I have been able to switch the input on the menu. Whatever I set it to, the exact same error message will show up but will be replaced by the chosen input, for example HDMI.

I'm wondering if the ariel lead has something to do with it? I didn't use an ariel lead with my old TV as I only watched Netflix and didn't seem to need one. On google somewhere it states that this brand of TV needs an ariel to work. The ariel lead I'm using now looks a bit knackered.
