Lan cable for Panasonic recorder!

Just got a Panasonic DMR EX97 recorder. It says it is necessary to get. Essential updates through the internet. Told on the screen that we need to use an lan.cable. Looking at a diagram which shows where this fits and wondering how this is connected to our virgin media hub which is in another room. There is no way I can connect with a cable. I know I am an innocent in this respect can anyone help please?

Plug your hub into it via an ethernet cable

Insert the second one in a socket near your DMR
Use a second ethernet cable to connect DMR and adapter
