Please talk me through removing photos/videos from my devices to free up storage

I have an iphone and macbook which are both constantly running out of storage. Photos and videos take up most of the space. I always delete things I don't want to keep, but I'm left with 100s of photos.

I think I can put them onto a portable hard drive? Any tips please? Any recommendations for apple compatible products? My priorities are a) freeing up space, b) preserving my photos elsewhere and c) organising them so that I can still access and view them easily.

Thanks!

Install Dropbox, the pictures you take automatically go into that so when you delete them from your phone they are still stored in your Dropbox account.

Thanks Magenta. I do have Dropbox, although I don't use it like this. That's something else I need to have explained to me!

But I feel I want something more tangible iyskim rather than storing them online? I confess I am a total dinosaur so maybe I need to rethink?

Now I've been told that I should just put them all in the cloud. I think they may be there already as I have 'backup to icloud' switched on - but how do I view what's there? [dinosaur emoticon]

Apple sell small key like hard drives that hold a lot of photos. I am no expert so can only suggest that to put them on some kind of hard drive as well as have them in iCloud is a safer option. My sister in law kept saying she had run out of storage but it turned out that it was her iCloud storage and she just needed to upgrade it. I don't expect that can be the same in your case but just throwing it out just in case!
