Water damaged iPad

Sorry for the boring thread!
Managed to absolutely soak the iPad last week.
Shook all the water out I could then left it in rice to dry. After 2/3 days the screen was black but I could screenshot so knew it was 'on'
Now it won't do anything, I've tried to charge it etc but it's broke completely!

Apple want a fortune for it (need a new screen anyway as it's cracked and home button has fell out!)
Would any of the shops that repair screens unlock phones etc be able to fix it or should I just go to apple?

There's a 'geeky stuff' board where people may know a bit more...

I had similar when an iPhone got wet, it wasn't fixable.

DH claimed on our insurance at xmas when DD tipped a full cup of coffee over his apple Mac. Insurance sent it to apple to fix but was beyond repair so he got a new one.

Killed mine with water, claimed on the house insurance. Only had to pay a small excess and got a new one as it wasn't fixable.

Didn't even think of claiming on home insurance! Grin
Thanks for your help!
