Older iPads, crashing like mad, what's happening?

Hi,
I have an an older iPad. ( I think it may have been called the "new iPad" the first time they used that that line!) Anyway it was the last release that had the fatter connector.
My son's iPad is a mini, has the Lightning connector but is also fairly elderly, maybe the 2nd generation of minis?
Neither of us were able to get iOS 10 because of their age (which was v frustrating as you know then that their days are numbered) but up until now things have been ok.
In the last week or so they have been crashing almost constantly, running reeeeeeeeealy slow, throwing us out often, sometimes around every 5 minutes.
Is anyone having the same sort of issues? Does anyone know if Apple have done something to meddle with them (I've suspected this in the past) in order to force us into upgrading our devices? Angry

Apple can't meddle with your device but with each new iOS they stop supporting the older ones. This means you won't get updates and fixes anymore which can cause more issues.

Also games and apps are updated to work on the new iOS. This means if you update your apps and games they may become unstable on an older iOS as they are now optimised for the new version which you don't have.

The best thing to do once you can't get the new version of iOS is to stop everything updating so you are keeping versions of your apps etc that work on your current iOS version. That helps stave off the inevitable for a while in my experience.

I have no idea but I too have a really old iPad and it doesn't crash, but it is slower than I don't know what. Seasons change outside in the time it takes for an app to load - it's driving me crazy. Worked fine until recently.

thanks for the tip about not updating the apps Newcrest that's helpful, I didn't know that.
Hassled it's sooo frustrating isn't it, mine is tortoise-like. In fact it started the dreadful slowness just before the crashing was added to the mix so I hope yours is not headed the same way.
I love apple products but I hate them for making them obsolete so frequently 😠

I have the same one; also known as iPad 3. I've given up on mine as it takes too long to charge and Daily Mail was always crashing.......some might say that's a bonus! I bought one of the big iPhone 6's to replace it.

Iggity. It is definitely the Daily Mail. I blame it regularly for all problems!

Have you tried turning it off and on with both buttons? Also mine got a lot quicker when I wiped everything and did a full reset. It's a pain to install stuff again but it helped for a while.

I am also under the belief that Apple (And even samsung HTC ect!) Do medal with devices! Perfectly working devices always seem to randomly start to play up for no known reason. I've experienced this alot over the years with many differ devices! And I'm very tech savvy.
