Portable Wifi

I'm looking at getting my DH some WiFi that he can use while he's on the road with work.
I'd probably do it pay as you go. But I really don't understand it all.
Please help! I'm normally pretty good on tech but this is throwing me.

I think there are quite a few options and they usually come from the mobile phone operators.

I use a portable wifi hotspot from EE, which uses the EE mobile phone signal (see pic). I find it very good and it works in most places, including trains. I'm not sure about outside the UK though. It's about 7 cm square and costs about £10 to buy.

You do need a contract with it though. I think they start at £10 a month (I pay £20 because I use it a lot for work where several of us connect to it at once so I need a decent amount of data). Mine can be cancelled at any time.

It is very easy to use, you just turn it on and look for its wifi signal. It has a code on it you need to input the first time you use it, but after that your laptop should save its details.

3 do a mobile dongle which you can top up as and when.

I have an O2 pay as you go hotspot, which we use when the broadband falls over. As it's pay as you go, it's costlier to buy initially.

You can share a hotspot, but I think a dongle will only plug into one machine.

The 3 one can support up to 5 devices.
