Kindle Paperwhite frozen/won't wake up or turn off

Just displays screen saver .

I've tried holding down power button for 30 secs and also doing that while plugged in to mains .

Any magic advice ?

Have you tried holding it for longer? Also seen others connecting it to the computer with the usb cable and that has worked for them.

thanks ,I'm not sure that I hjave a usb cable but I'll have a look .

Thanks butok .I have googled ,but hadn't seen the one about removing a downloaded item .

I had started reading a recently downloaded item .Can't start Kindle to download from there but will look and see if I can from Amazon on line .
