Could anyone please tell me how to caption videos?

I want to make a video and then add captions and music to it...I have an iphone but it's not the latest one...I'm so un-technical that I can't even remember what iphone it is!

I also have a video camera which is quite good...and a decent laptop. What is the best way to approach this please? The video would consist of still pictures and then have the captions popping up to tell a story.

If you are on a PC I've done this using MS Movie Maker. It should be free/on your machine as part of the basic pack but you can download it free from the Microsoft website if not. You import your films and photos then add titles/credits, break slides etc and comments can be added in text over the top. You can add audio comments or music too. After saving your "project" you then have to choose how to "publish" and it's set up to help you choose the format best for YouTube/Facebook etc. Good luck

So it would be a series of still pictures, with words over them? Or even image 1, image 2, image just with a caption on (a bit like a silent movie would have separate frames with the dialogue on)?

I'd be tempted to do it in Powerpoint if so, get it to run exactly as you want it and then either export it as a video or use some other software (I like ActivePresenter either to record the screen as the video plays or to create it from scratch, it can certainly do it.

How are you wanting to use the resultant video, is it to run in a web page or for a conference where you could run it straight from a memory stick? Just wondering what kind of quality you need.

Wow thank you both! I've not been back to this thread as I thought it had no responses...TribPot it's for DD who wants to make vids for Youtube....sort of stories with music under and images to show.
