Ipod/Ipad/cloud/photos...HELP

I have an ipad, DD has an ipad mini and DD2 has an ipod. They are all connected through my email to Apple itunes.
I have max cloud space (£6,99 permonth) but I seem to be running out of soace so thought would download photos to Dropbox. But just not sure how to do this, everything I do seems to result in...no saved photos.
I'm sure I am missing something obvious, but to be honest am not sure where to start.
I am clueless really.

Don't know about Dropbox (not geeky at all), but I try and put important pics on a memory stick.

Fair point. how do you do that from ipad/ipod? (Am really clueless)

Um well I download them from my phone using my mac. Attach via the charging cable, import them to the pc, then move them to the stck. You can also buy an external memory thing (I did say I'm not geeky!) can't remember what they're called, so you can copy everything on to that as well.
