iPad being very odd and refusing to play sound on certain games. Speakers are def working as it plays YouTube fine but won't play the alphabet song on meet the alpha blocks, or the sound on dinosaur tales, miinecraft or any of the Lego games but will play the sound for teach your monster to read. I'm clueless, can't find anything in the settings for the individual games.

Not an expert, but have you updated it to the latest iOS update?

IAmAPaleontologist · 10/10/2015 10:26

No I've not updated, it is an ancient ipad1 so I wasn't sure updating was a good idea.

You won't be able to update it beyond about iOS5. If you can update it, there will be a software update in Settings.

BertieBotts · 10/10/2015 10:29

Yep, you should update it as far as you can, it won't let you update it past a certain level so you won't break it :)

SoupDragon · 10/10/2015 10:30

Have you tried rebooting it (holding the round home button and power button down until it restarts)?

IAmAPaleontologist · 10/10/2015 10:31

Yes I have rebooted. Shall go have a look at updates now. Send a search party if I don't return.

Maybe try reinstalling one of the problem apps? Check that the version in the App Store is comparable with whatever iOS your iPad it running first though. I think DD ran into trouble doing this on her ipad1

TheImminentGin · 10/10/2015 10:45

My ancient iPad started refusing to do many things and apps that demanded to be upgraded could not be. I just had to get a new iPad. Very annoying.

IAmAPaleontologist · 10/10/2015 11:20

Well I've upgraded and I'm still here. Still no sound on certain apps though. So I suppose the next step will be reinstalling them and see if it works.

So apparently the little switch next to the volume control on the side of the iPad is a mute switch. The mute switch was on Blush

In my defence though some things were still making sound. If the mute switch muted everything then I'd probably have figured it out earlier. What is the good of a mute switch that only mutes half the things?

Ah. my little switch locks the screen rotation rather than mute the sound :)

BertieBotts · 10/10/2015 21:32

tis odd, they must be under different volume settings somehow?

Chewbecca · 10/10/2015 21:35

IN 'settings', 'general' there's an option to switch that slider between mute and screen lock.

dingit · 12/10/2015 07:03

I didn't know that, sometimes linked you tube clips are silent for me, that might be why! Love mumsnet!
