photos on mac - I could weep trying to sort this all out!

Have updated to Yosemite and my iPhoto library has transferred across into a huge mass of pics arranged by date.

Any new pics aren't loading in an order that I can find them and some don't appear at all.
How can I label with a title the 'shoot' I have just done and then be able to find it by typing that into search. Have found some by their p104673 etc... but that's not practical.
Have found a selection under 'last import' but can't see how to label it...and when I import something else...it'll disappear!

Can anyone help please?

Hi, I hate the new layout too. I use a site called Macmost to sort out problems as it show vids explaining things. This may help you understand what the new Photos works.
