not sure if this is the right forum, but i'm sure someone will let me know if its not!!

i need to calculate the following

I have an amount in USD
I have a conversion rate from USD to GBP
I have a conversion rate from GBP to EUR
I need to work out what the conversion rate from USD to EUR is....

my head is frazzled and i cannot see it!

Why do you need to work it out? Google is your friend here - www.google.co.uk/finance/converter

quangotango · 03/09/2015 17:33

use: www.xe.com/currencyconverter/ :)

howabout · 03/09/2015 17:37

Rate is about 1.1. If this is a homework question then its fractions simplification or just do the calculations sequentially and then calculate the rate at the end.

LittleRedSparkle · 03/09/2015 17:47

sadly its not a homework question, and i need the formula to use

would it be,.

= ( USD fx / GBP fx ) / EUR fx

does that look logical? seems to be working - normally i dont struggle with things like this, but this one is really annoying me!

You absolutely have to have that GBP factor in the middle?

lougle · 03/09/2015 19:02

Usd fx gbp fx eur fx

lougle · 03/09/2015 19:04

Sorry usd gbp fx eur fx

You're applying the gbp factor first to usd, then applying the eur factor to the result to get euros.

LittleRedSparkle · 03/09/2015 19:09

doh!

found it

i only need to do EUR / USD and then i can x my USD by the result...

its the result i am looking for, to apply to the rest of the report

so if my EUR was 2 and my USD was 1.5 ( 2 / 1.5 )
i would need to * my USD by 1.33 to get the EUR amount

Eg. $1 = £2 (factor = 2)
£1 = €0.50 (factor = 0.5)

You have $2; how many €?

2×2×0.5=€2
