I have an Epson printer which has gone on strike saying it doesn't recognise the cartridges. I am using Epson ones, and have even bought a different set and installed those to no avail. Anyone have any ideas?

I have had the same problem this week following an update from Epson.
After much swapping of ink cartridges, swearing and getting really pissed off I reinstalled the printer from the original discs and using cheapy non Epson ink it worked.

Also had this problem, with a soft cloth gently wipe the contact/chip area of the cartridge & where it slots into the printer, this worked for me after trying a 2nd batch of ink & I thought it was work a try before anything more complicated.

Thanks for your suggestions, which my printer is not co operating with. I have noticed it is just the magenta it seems to be rejecting at the moment, which of course doesn't lessen the frustration as the printer still won't work even though I only need black!

Try unplugging and re-inserting the USB cable from the printer.

I think it's an evil plan by Epson to make people so frustrated with the printer that they throw it out of the window, so need a new one thus boosting sales of new printers.

I had the same problem with my Epson printer. There is a piece of plastic over the ink hole on the cartridge and for some reason it didn't pierce when I put the black cartridge in. Doing it manually sorted it out.

Yes my Epson does this too, whatever the cartridge manufacturer. I take cartridges out individually, wipe the contact area and replace - this usually works.

Yes Steven I am coming round to your thinking, it is indeed an evil plan...

I find that if I just reinstall it without actually removing the cartridge it eventually after a couple of goes it accepts it
You may have to do it every time you put the printer on though
sodding epson printers aahhhhh
