How do I fix DD' s iPod?

DD was on her old iPod this morning when a pop up suddenly appeared and filled the screen. She can't get rid of it. It won't let her use the home screen button or even turn it off. Any ideas how to sort it out? Thanks.

Hold the menu and centre buttons together at the same time.

Home and off button. If not plug into PC
